Default Cat Flap will not open

Hi,

I originally purchased the cat flap about 3 months ago. At the start all was fine then it started to not lock at night when the Night Mode was on. This was resolved by resetting the cat flap.

It then started to do this again. Worse still it then would not lock. The result of this was a replacement cat flap was sent to me.

The new cat flap was fitted and for 3 weeks all has been fine. Until yesterday. Although the cat flap beeped when my cat went under the sensor it would not open. I must stress that we had not touched the cat flap; it just would not let her in.

I have tried powering off, powering on. This did not work. I have switched it to open mode and 50 % of the time it makes a positive click and the green stopper moves, the other 50 % of the time it does not move.

So that I could leave the house today I have had to tape down the green stopper so that at least I know my cat will be able to get in.

I am starting to get a bit frustrated with this as this needs to be reliable. At the present time I am worrying every day whether the thing will work or not. Is it something that we are doing wrong? I am stuggling to see what it could be though as we just had it in Night Mode and we have not touched it. The only thing that we sometimes do is switch it off Night Mode in the morning if it is still dark to allow my cat out ... but then once she has gone out we switch if back into Night Mode so that when we get in at night the cat will be in.

Please can you help .....

Hi if you purchased from us please contact me using the contact form at Microchip Cat Flaps - Contact Us otherwise please go back to the retailer where you purchased it from.

I will probably need to see a photograph of your installation to check it is installed correctly.

Sounds similar to my "rain problem" (thread above). Try giving the green tag a gentle leftward push as it's opening -- you can do this without a cat by pressing the two settings buttons at the top for a few seconds to set the flap to "always open", and nudging the green tag at the same time. It's not a fix, but it narrows the problem down a bit.
